The Influence of Major Social Transitions on Dream Content

academic research from the Center for Organization Dreaming

Dream content reveals how people psychologically process change during periods of unheaval. This research analyzed more than 300 dreams collected over 18 months. The findings show that dreams reflect both day-to-day activities and the activation of underlying schemas. Schemas are mental frameworks that shape how people understand social relationships. They guide how we think, feel, and act, especially when under pressure. Schemas typically operate below awareness, but dreams can bring them to the surface, making them both visible and measurable. This research provides a rigorous and reliable method for detecting early unconscious responses to change.
